Russell Wilson signed with the New York Giants this past offseason with hopes of leading the team to the playoffs in 2025, but he was instead benched after three games. The veteran has now been demoted, and he is doing everything he can to maintain a positive attitude.
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is in concussion protocol and will not play in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers. The assumption was that Wilson would reclaim the starting job for the time being, but interim head coach Mike Kafka has instead decided to turn to Jameis Winston.
That means Wilson is a third-string player. He reacted to the change while speaking with reporters on Wednesday.
"I want to see it through. I haven't asked for a release or anything like that," Wilson said. "I want to be here. I think for me, I just want to get better every day. I still want to keep playing football. I love it, obviously, and I feel like I've still got it."

The Giants were the only team willing to essentially promise Wilson a Week 1 starting job this season. He signed with the team before New York traded up in the first round to draft Jaxson Dart, and former head coach Brian Daboll benched Wilson after Week 3.
Wilson completed 59.1% of his passes for 778 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across his three starts. The Giants went 0-3 in those games.
Wilson had a mediocre season with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, though he did lead the team to the playoffs. The 10-time Pro Bowl QB finished with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. The Steelers chose to sign Aaron Rodgers rather than bringing Wilson back.
At this point, there is not a whole lot Wilson can do. Even if the 36-year-old were to demand his release, there is virtually no chance he would land a starting job elsewhere.
