This might fly a bit under the national radar as one of the first games on a big Saturday, but this could be a quirky season-maker/wrecker.
Arkansas played well in a 41-35 loss at Ole Miss last week, and now it has to keep its focus in a tough sandwich game with Notre Dame up next.
With road games at Tennessee, LSU, and Texas still to deal with, lose to Memphis, and thanks for playing, 2025 college football season.
Memphis is 3-0 coming off a nice win at Troy. Now it’s at home for its only game this year against a power conference team.
With both USF and Tulane coming to the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, beat the Hogs, and all of a sudden, the Tigers are deep in the College Football Playoff mix.

The ground game has been rolling.
It's everything the program has been working towards under Sam Pittman, with the offensive line in place to pound away, and the backfield that's able to crank out big plays.
Last year, the Hogs averaged over five yards per carry in just four games - and won all four. They were 5-1 when averaging over 4.2 yards per pop, and the one loss was in double overtime. So far in the first three games, they've averaged 4.9 yards or more in all three games.
The Memphis defense has been wonderful, but it hasn't faced anything like the Hogs will bring on the ground. They're averaging 245 yards per game, are No. 1 in the nation in third down conversions, and ...
Again, the Memphis defensive front has held up well.
Dealing with the Arkansas offense is a whole other problem compared to Chattanooga, Georgia State, and Troy, but the line is great, the pass rush strong, and overall, the defense is good enough to come up with a few key third down stops.
Last week, Arkansas dealt with a good passing for the first time in the loss to Ole Miss, giving up way too many midrange to deep shots.
Memphis veteran quarterback Brendan Lewis has been sharp. The former Colorado Buffalo and Nevada Wolf Pack starter is in his sixth year, and he's connecting on everything, running well, and ...
The Tigers will be a tough out.
They'll keep bringing the offensive pressure, the defense will hold up well against the run for long stretches, Lewis will have some big moments in the first half.
But the Hogs will take over with the ground game ripping off yards in chunks as the game goes on. It won't be easy, and it'll come down to the final few minutes, but when the clock needs to be wound down, Arkansas will get the job done.
