Arizona State football star running back Cam Skattebo was preparing for the NFL combine. However, before then, he faces a hurdle because of a possible legal between a former teammate. Former ASU offensive lineman Mattheos Katergaris is updating his current lawsuit against the university to include Skattebo as a defendant over a golf cart incident that was an “actual and proximate cause of” Katergaris injuries.

The lawsuit indicates that the incident occurred on July 31st, 2023. Katergaris and a fellow teammate sat in the back of the golf cart, waiting to be transferred from the practice facility to the locker room. That is when Skattebo jumped on the back of the golf cart and “jumped up and down on the rear bench as the golf cart traveled a considerable distance.” The result was the rear bench of the golf cart broke, making Katergaris fall from the cart and sustained a “serious bodily injury, which resulted in months of medical care.”

A day before the incident, the team had instructed the roster about the proper use of golf carts and told the players that the rear seat had a limit of 600 pounds or two people. Skattebo jumping on the back of the golf cart was a risk, and the lawsuit is trying to claim that it is his fault for the accident and Katergaris’ injury.

Per his complaint, Katergaris is seeking $300,000 from Skattebo and the Arizona Board of Regents for the incident. The Arizona Board of Regents answered those claims, saying Katergaris “over-treated and/or incurred unnecessary and/or unreasonable expenses” in his medical care. The board has already paid for a majority of Katergaris’ treatment as well.

Skattebo hasn’t responded to the lawsuit, and whether he has been served is also unknown. The former ASU running back is preparing to begin his journey to the NFL but faces a potential hiccup before stepping foot at the NFL draft combine.
