JaMichael Garrett had been committed to the Auburn Tigers for quite some time. In fact, in this day and age of the recruiting cycle, he'd been with Hugh Freeze and the Tigers for an eternity.
Garrett had originally committed to Auburn in July. Now, almost a year later, the four-star linebacker from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has opened things back up.
It was announced on Thursday that Garrett has decommitted from Auburn.

Those reading the tea leaves may have been able to see this decommitment coming. Speaking at the end of April, the four-star had told Chad Simmons of On3 that he wanted to give all the schools recruiting him a chance to make their pitch.
“If anything changes, it will be before the season starts,” Garrett said. “Auburn is still the school I am committed to, but I am looking at my options and I will take visits. I want to give some of these great schools a chance since they are recruiting me so hard.”
Since that comment, Garrett has taken an official visit to Auburn, but he also took an official visit to Ole Miss, and he has official visits lined up with Miami (Friday) and Texas A&M (June 20).
Garrett is clearly playing the field right now to see where he best fits, so it does make sense that he's opened his recruitment back up, though the Tigers won't like it.
Garrett is a big-time linebacker recruit, so he's going to be one to watch over the next few months. According to 247Sports, he's the No. 8 linebacker in the 2026 class.
