"I've learned a lot this year," Hank Brown, the Auburn quarterback who just wrapped up the first regular season of his Auburn career said on Thursday.
The transition from high school to college can be wild for anyone but the student-athletes who adjust on the fly while also needing to compete at a high level is something that a ton of people take for granted.
Brown, who was originally committed to Hugh Freeze at Liberty, followed the head coach to the SEC during the early signing period last December. I asked him what he learned during his first year at the college level in an interview on Thursday.
"The big thing that I just tried to do, and the perspective I tried to take is just to be able to sit back and learn as much as I could throughout this season with the coaches we have and, you know, with Payton (Thorne), just being able to learn from him and the way that he gets prepared every week." Brown said. "Just the intricate details with all that. I've learned a lot. I've learned that this college football world is crazy."
College football has always been crazy but now as we are comfortably in the transfer portal era, it's gotten a lot crazier.
"Especially after our Alabama game, just, you know, with the portal opening up - just chaos, you know, throughout the college football world."
"It's very bizarre," Brown said. "It's a whole new world that even some of the coaches are dealing with. We've got workouts and practices, obviously, this week. Some of the kids aren't showing up and so it's like, 'well, yeah, they're in the transfer portal.'"
Amidst all the craziness, Brown believes Auburn is navigating it well.
"I think I've learned that this team is going to be really good and, if we can, if a lot of the guys can understand that patience is a big part of that puzzle piece that we need. That's something that I'm doing and working on and trying to build relationships throughout our program to further our program and get us better."
