Austin Davis resigns as Auburn OC less than two months after taking job

After less than two months with the Auburn Tigers, offensive coordinator Austin Davis has abruptly retired due to personal reasons.

Davis was hired in December and had not coached a practice yet. According to reports, Davis spent time away from the job last week before making the decision to leave Auburn for good.

In a statement, Davis said the decision came from wanting to spend more time with his family.

"The last week has been difficult for me as I've made the decision to step away from coaching football," the statement reads. ""My decision to resign is 100 percent based on personal reasons. After more than a decade in the NFL with the daily grind as a player and coach I've realized how much I miss my family and my desire to spend more time with them."

Davis, 32, previously served as the Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach since 2019. He played in the NFL from 2012-18, appearing in 16 games including eight starts for the then St. Louis Rams in 2014. He threw for 2,548 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions across 16 NFL appearances.

The swift resignation is just the latest turnover for Auburn's coaching staff. Davis had been hired to replace Mike Bobo, who was relieved of his duties last month with two years left on his contract. Defensive coordinator Derek Mason also left Auburn recently but was announced as Oklahoma State's new DC just last week.
