Bad news continues for Florida Gators as top target makes crucial decision that could spell disaster for Billy Napier

The Florida Gators have done a really good job when it comes to recruiting overall. Head coach Billy Napier has secured 16 commitments for the 2026 class, ranking 14th overall and sixth in the SEC. With the potential addition of a couple high-profile commits over the weekend, they could vault up the rankings by a couple of spots.

One of the players who the Gators were expecting to commit over the weekend was four-star linebacker DQ Forkpa, but that has changed. He has officially pushed back his commitment from Saturday, July 12th to an unknown date.

Gators in danger of losing four-star LB DQ Forkpa

This could end up being bad news for the Gators, which is frustrating. They were seen as a shoo-in to land Forkpa with a 96.2% chance to secure his commitment per the On3 Sports Recruiting Prediction Machine. Right now, it appears that the Michigan Wolverines are making the biggest push for him and that feels like the reason for his delay.

“I’m just not sure on the school right now,” Forkpa said, via Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “I really like Florida and playing in the SEC on that national state, but Florida State and Michigan have been talking to me a lot, too.”

Forkpa, who has made two visits (one official) to Gainesville over the last few months has also visited Ann Arbor three times, including an official visit on June 13th. The other official visits have been to Florida State (June 6th) and Miami (June 20th).

Getting Forkpa to commit would have been really big for the Gators second level of the defense to maximize their recruiting class. They already landed four-star Malik Morris and still hope to get four-star Izayia Williams back in the fold after he decommitted and committed to Ole Miss.

The good news for the Gators is they haven't been ruled out, but securing his commitment will be a little more difficult.
