While his teammates opted out, Barryn Sorrell dove all the way into Senior Bowl activities in Mobile, Ala. His NFL future may depend on it.

Sorrell was one of five Texas players who were invited to the Senior Bowl, where NFL personnel holds practices and live scrimmages in front of representatives of all 32 teams.

“The best of the best is out here, so I’m just trying to show that I can complete with the best of the best in terms of making plays,” Sorrell told WGNO-TV. “Whether it’s in the run game or the pass game, I’m effective either way and I want to show that.”

Sorrell had six sacks and 11 tackles for loss last season for the Longhorns, but he’s currently projected as a mid- to late-round pick. Performing well at Mobile could set him on a different pathway to the NFL.

Safety Andrew Mukuba, defensive tackles Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton and tight end Gunnar Helm were also invited to Mobile, and all of them accepted. However, Sorrell was the only one who showed up and went through on-field drills.

All of the draft-eligible Longhorns still have multiple chances to showcase their skills at the NFL Scouting Combine or at Texas Pro Day later this spring.
