Tight end Michael Trigg was expected to be the first Baylor Bear off the board, but with how things appear to be changing, wide receiver Josh Cameron's stock is rising.
Josh Cameron is projected to most likely be a day three pick in the NFL Draft. Ranging from round four to six, but Cameron is a very talented, larger-built receiver who could have some impact on the right team. He's interested in a few teams, earning a top 30 visit with the Atlanta Falcons.
A for walk-on from Cedar Park, Texas, who had two fantastic final years at Baylor. With over 1600 yards and 19 touchdowns, Josh became a dominant target for Baylor's offense. Also had a great showing at the Senior Bowl. A few standout games from last season worth mentioning are his 151 yards and two touchdowns against top-ranked SMU. Also had 165 yards with two touchdowns on 13 receptions against Utah. He continues to perform well when Baylor has played some tougher ranked teams. I feel that in the right NFL system of offense, he could be a reliable slot receiver.
Really talented guy who might not be your speedster, but a big physical slot receiver you can throw on short routes and trust his physicality to get open and make short plays, turn into big gains. Cameron averaged over 12 yards per catch and had multiple 30+ yard plays throughout the year. With the speed this receiver class has, Cameron will certainly go overlooked, but the Falcons could fill out a slot spot after releasing both KhaDarel Hodge and Darnell Mooney.
With two receivers and one of their starting running back, Tyler Allgeier, heading out to free agency, Atlanta will be desperate to fill out the offense to complement Drake London and Kyle Pitts. I see Atlanta taking defense in the early rounds, but later in the draft, I see them looking for a receiver down in the mock drafts, someone that they could take little risk on, and hoping they explode and take off. And I think Atlanta could definitely be the team to do that, and take Josh in the later rounds.
The Falcons ranked 14th in total offense this year and 14th in passing yards. Their offense almost always has three receivers on the field, running high 11 personnel 86.2%, which leads the league. There's a good chance that if Cameron is still available somewhere in Round 4, don't be surprised if the Falcons take him.
My best pro comparison I can think of for Cameron is former Falcon and Bengals receiver Mohamed Sanu. A tall, big frame receiver that will make plays catching the ball, but will also impose his will in run blocking as well. A more current comparison is someone like Josh Palmer for the Chargers.
