The latest Big 12 football championship odds, via Bet MGM, were released after the 2025 preseason coaches poll top 25 rankings. Safe to say, there are many contenders for the conference crown this year.
Arizona State was infamously picked to finish last in 2024, but ended up winning the Big 12 and made the College Football Playoff. Is there another Cinderella story at hand this fall?
Without further ado, let’s dive into the Big 12 odds from Bet MGM and dissect who’s the top contender. Spoiler alert, it’s anyone’s guess!
Utah is the favorite in the Big 12, per Bet MGM. The odds are very close from the top all the way down to the end of the top five.
The odds like head coach Kyle Whittingham to turn things around this fall after the Utes’ skill positions were revamped through the transfer portal. The defense is veteran heavy as well.
Next up is Kansas State. The Wildcats are among many teams in the Big 12 that could win the conference, but they’re a little more ‘win-now’ than others.
The Wildcats bring back QB Avery Johnson and RB Dylan Edwards while adding transfer WRs Jaron Tibbs and Jerand Bradley, among others. The defensive line could be a strength with veterans across the board as well.
Arizona State was picked last during last year’s summer preseason polls and well, they won the Big 12. Bet MGM listed them tied for the second-best odds to win the conference this time around.
Sam Leavitt returns under center as one of the better QBs in the country. The Sun Devils also added former Army RB Kanye Udoh to the mix and brought back a lot of starters on defense.
Baylor could certainly bounce back in 2025 and Bet MGM likes their chances this fall. Dave Aranda led the Bears to a Big 12 title a few years ago and this could be the year to reach those heights again.
Sawyer Robertson is under center and the Bears recently added Kobe Prentice at WR, giving them a veteran playmaker. The linebacker group was rebuilt through the portal as well with guys like Emar-rion Winston, Travion Barnes and Matthew Fobbs-White.
Texas Tech is tough to project, but Bet MGM likes their chances in the Big 12 just as much as the three previously mentioned teams. The Red Raiders spent a lot of money and underwent a lot of change via the transfer portal.
Behren Morton will have some solid weapons and protection at QB. There are three new offensive linemen and Quinten Joyner and Reggie Virgil are in at RB and WR, respectively.
What to expect from TCU this season? No one really knows! The Horned Frogs could very well win the Big 12 or could have a middling season.
Jordan Dwyer and Joseph Manjack transferred in and should bolster the WR corps. TCU does have a lot of veterans on defense, so there shouldn’t be growing pains in 2025.
Iowa State might have the best head coach in the Big 12, Matt Campbell, depending upon who you ask. The Cyclones got to the conference championship last year, but have longer odds this season.
Rocco Becht returns at QB and Iowa State added two transfer wide receivers this offseason as well. On defense, the secondary is very experienced and should aid the Cyclones defense greatly.
The Jayhawks added a lot through the transfer portal this offseason but actually return a Big 12 mainstay, QB Jalon Daniels. The senior quarterback will have plenty of new weapons at RB and WR.
On defense, new linebackers Bangally Kamara and Joseph Sipp Jr. will give a new look to the middle of the unit. Three of five defensive backs are new as well and all seniors.
Bet MGM likely dropped BYU’s Big 12 odds considering the transfer of QB Jake Retzlaff. There are two new offensive linemen, via the transfer portal, so they’ll have McCae Hillstead of Bear Bachmeier protection up front.
The Cougars were solid last season, but this year might be more of a climb to get to the top of the conference. Time will tell.
Colorado is a fascinating exercise this year. Deion Sanders battled and beat cancer, he goes into Year 3 and there’s talent on this roster. But this could be a situation of better team, worse record, than 2024.
Who knows? The Big 12 is random! Kaidon Salter and freshman QB Julian Lewis could both play meaningful snaps. A lot of transfers came in again, especially on the offensive line, which remains the biggest question on an otherwise pretty good roster. The team unfortunately doesn’t have a Shedeur Sanders or Travis Hunter to really light it up though.
