Last week, the college football world was shocked when legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick agreed to become the next head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels. The major storyline will be how Belichick assembles his roster and runs a college football program that is much different from the NFL.

On Thursday, Belichick dipped into the transfer portal by adding former Alabama offensive lineman Miles McVay. McVay was a part of the Crimson Tide's 2023 recruiting class. Coming out of high school, McVay, who was touted as a four-star prospect, slotted in as the No. 176 player in his class and No. 12 interior offensive lineman according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

In the transfer portal rankings, 247Sports has McVay ranked as the No. 243 player and placed a three-star rating on the transfer. The Tar Heels have added six transfers, including three different players committing on Thursday. McVay is one of five three-star transfers that North Carolina has added and one of two offensive linemen.

The Tar Heels have lost nine players to the transfer portal, but four players nearly left the program before withdrawing their names from the portal.

McVay is one of 14 Alabama players who left the program following first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer's inaugural season in Tuscaloosa. Just two weeks into portal season, 10 of the 14 players have already found their next destination.

McVay is one of three former Alabama players who chose ACC schools with Dylan Lonergan choosing Boston College and Naquil Bertrand selecting Syracuse.

The Crimson Tide has added a pair of players from the portal in four-star cornerback Cameron Calhoun and four-star EDGE Kelby Collins.
