Bill O'Brien Poaches Former 4-Star Quarterback From Alabama

Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien bolstered his quarterback room for the 2025 season by reuniting with a familiar face. 

Earlier this month, former Alabama quarterback Dylan Lonergan entered the transfer portal. The former four-star recruit from Brookwood High School was actually recruited by O'Brien when he committed to Alabama in 2022. Fast forward to December 2024, and he has decided to play for O'Brien at Boston College. 

ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed Lonergan's move to Boston College just moments ago. The Eagles were considered the favorites to land him as soon as he entered the transfer portal. That being said, there was some competition for his services.

Just two days ago, On3 reported that Georgia had Lonergan on its radar. At the end of the day, Boston College was able to win the sweepstakes. 

There's no guarantee Lonergan will start at Boston College. We'd imagine that his connection with O'Brien will help his case though. 

Boston College would love to have some stability at quarterback next season. Earlier this year, Thomas Castellanos left the team after losing his starting job. He completed 61.5 percent of his pass attempts for 1,366 yards with 18 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Castellanos was replaced by Grayson James, who has 901 passing yards, six touchdowns and two picks on the year.
