Alabama football is set to kick off its 2025 season against Florida State on Aug. 30 in Tallahassee, Florida.
The Crimson Tide will enter the season with some high expectations in Kalen DeBoer’s second year. Fortunately for Alabama, it has a lot of experience returning on both sides of the football. But will these factors equal success this fall?
Here are a few bold predictions for the Crimson Tide’s 2025 football season:
Going undefeated may become a dying art in the new college football landscape. Talent is spread all across the country probably more evenly than ever before among top college football programs with NIL and the transfer portal playing a major role in this. Alabama football has a challenging schedule, specifically within the SEC, per usual. Fortunately for Alabama, some critical games are at home including its matchups versus LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. On the flip side, the Tide will travel to Athens to take on Georgia and will visit Auburn at home in November. If Alabama can escape the front half of its schedule undefeated, this one will become less bold.
It is not bold to predict Alabama will have a first-round draft pick. But predicting them to have at least three is. Kadyn Proctor could be considered a shoo-in to be a first-round pick if he has a healthy and successful season. LT Overton has shown up on a few way-too-early 2026 first-round mock drafts, and if he can be more productive as a pass rusher he could find himself going early in the next NFL Draft. So, who is the most trusted option to be the third first-round pick? It is Qua Russaw. The Montgomery, Alabama product is a freak of an athlete, who will look to be a better pass rusher in the upcoming season. His play has an opportunity to turn the heads of NFL scouts, but his testing at the combine could be the extra push he needs to become a first-rounder if he indeed has a breakout season for Alabama.
Could this one happen? It’s possible, but it will take Williams dominating week in and week out. He will have to do what he did in the first half of his freshman campaign. The former five-star had 544 yards and six touchdowns through the first five games of the season. This put him on pace to finish the regular season with 1,305 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns if he stayed producing at that level. That is more receiving yards than Travis Hunter had last year and the same amount of touchdowns Hunter had when he took home the award last season. Of course, Hunter’s defensive play separated him in last year’s Heisman race. Even with Williams expected to be better in year two, this one is still a bold prediction due to him having a first-year starter at quarterback throwing to him along with some other dependable weapons, who will get their fair share of targets in 2025. This is one to keep in mind as the season progresses if Williams proves to be unguardable like he did early on in 2024.
