LSU head coach Brian Kelly confirmed on Wednesday that cornerback Ashton Stamps is no longer part of the Tigers' roster. Stamps, previously a starter, has opted to redshirt and plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
A New Orleans native, Stamps was a key player for LSU in his sophomore year of 2024, starting all 13 games at cornerback.
During that season, he ranked among the top five in the SEC for passes defended, totaling 14.
Over his two active seasons with LSU, including his freshman year in 2023, Stamps played in 24 games, starting 17, and recorded 74 tackles and 16 pass breakups while wearing the purple-and-gold.

Entering the 2025 season with a streak of 16 consecutive starts, Stamps saw his role diminish as Virginia Tech transfer Mansoor Delane, returning starter PJ Woodland, and highly touted freshman DJ Pickett took precedence at the cornerback position. With LSU off to a 5-2 start this season, Stamps appeared in only one game, logging just 18 snaps.
Earlier this week, Kelly highlighted Stamps and safety Jardin Gilbert, another former starter who transitioned to a reserve role, as players opting to redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility, resulting in limited game action.
