Everyone knows who the future of Michigan football is under center. You don’t promise a recruit upwards of $13 million if they aren’t expected to be the face of your program. It does appear, however, that the Wolverines might be patient with 2025 quarterback signee Bryce Underwood, at least early on.
Both Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos of On3 put in expert predictions for former Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. to land with Michigan via the transfer portal. Edwards is fresh off a good season for the Terrapins, throwing for 2,881 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes. He also added another five scores on the ground.

On paper, Edwards should be a huge upgrade to the position from last season. He has a quick release, is tough inside the pocket, and generally accurate to the middle of the field. Working through the Wolverine run game should only accentuate his strengths even more.
Some fans out there may be frustrated if this pickup does happen, wanting to see Underwood very early. Like most incoming freshmen, maturation both physically and mentally would be very beneficial. It’s very likely that we will see Underwood at some point during the 2025 season, with Edwards serving as a bit of a bridge until he’s ready.
It’s also important to point out that Michigan will be breaking in a new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey this season as well. The Wolverines will also be replacing multiple starters on the offensive line, as well as overhauling the skill position. Patience is probably the best thing for Underwood until everything is in place, and working.
