Bucs Sign 2 Tryout Players, Waive 2 Others
Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

The Bucs have signed two tryout players from the rookie mini-camp over the weekend.

Tampa Bay added Central Arkansas cornerback Andrew Hayes and Kentucky running back Ramon Jefferson on Sunday. Fox Sports’ Greg Auman first reported the news on X.

Hayes is a 5-foot-10, 191-pound cornerback who recorded one interception and 10 pass breakups last season after transferring from Ouachita Baptist where he had three interceptions and 18 pass breakups over three seasons. He is known for being a good tackler in addition to his coverage ability.

Jefferson, a 5-foot-9, 202-pound running back, played for new offensive coordinator Liam Coen last year at Kentucky. As a backup behind Ray Davis, a workhorse back for the Wildcats, Jefferson had just 28 carries for 184 yards and averaged 6.6 yards per carry. He did not log any receptions in his two seasons at Kentucky and missed virtually the entire 2022 season with a torn ACL on his second carry of his Wildcats career in the season opener.

Jefferson played for two seasons at Sam Houston State alongside Bucs cornerback Zyon McCollum where he helped the Bearkats to a 21-1 record and an FCS Championship in 2020. He had 299 rushes for 1,907 yards and 20 touchdowns over those two years, including 1,155 yards and 13 touchdowns on 173 carries in 2021. Jefferson posted six 100-yard rushing games that season.

He started college in 2017 at Maine where he was a redshirt before running the ball 182 times for 1,037 yards and eight touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. Jefferson then transferred to Garden City Community College where he he ran the ball 168 times for 994 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2019. After two seasons at Sam Houston State he committed to Colorado but then switched his commitment and opted for Kentucky in 2022.

Bucs Waive 2 Players

To make room for cornerback Andrew Hayes and running back Ramon Jefferson on Tampa Bay’s 90-man roster, the team waived two players on Sunday. Cornerback Quandre Mosely and offensive lineman Logan Stenberg, who were part of the team’s practice squad last year, were let go. Tampa Bay have sufficient depth in the offensive line room with the drafting of center Graham Barton and guard Elijah Klein, and Hayes for Mosely is an even swap at the cornerback position.

Fox Sports’ Greg Auman first reported the news on Sunday.
