Cam Newton doesn’t sugarcoat things. And when it comes to Shedeur Sanders—the high-profile former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and son of Coach Prime—Newton had a message on his 4th and 1 podcast, that shook the football world.

“Lead with work, not clout.” That was the wake-up call Newton delivered, cutting through the noise with a statement aimed directly at Sanders’ approach to the game, the media, and his NFL aspirations. For Colorado fans and Cleveland Browns fans alike, Newton’s words weren’t just a critique—they were a challenge.

A CEO, Not a Cornerback

Cam Newton sees a quarterback’s job as more than throwing touchdowns. In his eyes, Shedeur has adopted the flash and bravado of a defensive back. “As a DB, you’re able to do certain things… but as a quarterback… you are the CEO of that franchise.” Newton emphasized that quarterbacks are held to a different standard, one where leadership must be earned through discipline, not just social media presence or swagger. It’s a call for Sanders to realign—especially with after his NFL Draft slide.

The “Super Six” Standard

Newton introduced a framework he calls the “Super Six”—the key figures a franchise quarterback must answer to: owner, GM, head coach, position coach, teammates, and fans. According to Newton, these relationships are crucial, and anything that disrupts that trust—like questions about Deion Sanders’ influence—could damage Shedeur’s draft stock. “If we draft you, will it be a circus in the locker room?” Newton asked rhetorically, highlighting the NFL’s quiet concerns.

A Path That Still Leads to Sundays

Despite the critique, Newton didn’t count Sanders out. “Does he have the capabilities? Absolutely.” In fact, Newton even predicted that Shedeur could take snaps for the Cleveland Browns this year—a bold forecast that should electrify Buffs Nation. The key, Newton insists, is simple: focus. “Let’s control what we can control. Let’s get to work.”

Cam’s message is blunt but honest—exactly the kind of fire that could fuel Shedeur’s next chapter. And for Colorado fans, it’s another reminder: greatness isn’t given, it’s earned. The road to the NFL starts now.
