Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby is Entering the Transfer Portal

Brendan Sorsby is officially in the portal, and it’s a brutal blow for Cincinnati. The guy who gave the Bearcats their first real spark at quarterback in the Big 12 era is on the way out, and this one definitely caught folks off guard.

After transferring in from Indiana, Sorsby didn’t waste any time making an impact. He stepped into a Cincinnati offense that needed answers and turned it into something that actually moved the ball. He threw for close to 3,000 yards, ran for almost 600 more, and accounted for over 30 total touchdowns. That kind of production doesn’t grow on trees, especially not in the portal.

The Bearcats got off to a 7-1 start with him at the helm this year. They didn’t finish the way they wanted, but there was no question who the most important player on the roster was. He kept them competitive, kept them in games, and brought some real juice to the squad.

And now, he’s out. Just like that. Sorsby is likely opting out of the Liberty Bowl and heading into portal season with one year of eligibility left. He’s also reportedly waiting on feedback from the NFL, so this could be a one-and-done wherever he lands next. Either way, he’s not finishing the job in Cincinnati.

That stings. It’s not just about replacing a quarterback; it’s about replacing the guy who made this offense watchable under Scott Satterfield. The guy who gave Cincinnati fans something to feel good about during a strange, up-and-down season. And there’s not an easy fix for that kind of loss.

As for what’s next, Sorsby’s going to have plenty of options. Big body, big arm, mobile, experienced, he checks every box that gets coaches reaching for the phone. Don’t be surprised if he lands with a big-time program in the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati’s got some soul-searching to do. The portal cuts both ways, and this one cuts deep.
