Freshman running back Marquis Henderson has been let go from the Clemson football program, according to a team spokesperson.

Henderson enrolled early and participated minimally in spring practice, but it was not made clear why he was dismissed.

"Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward,” the statement said.

In the 2025 class, Henderson stood out as a four-star talent after graduating from Honea Path (S.C.) Belton-Honea Path. Across his class, he was ranked as the 205th-best prospect overall and the 10th-best running back in the country. Henderson was confirmed to be on the Clemson roster before his release.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney noted after the teams’ spring game in April that Henderson wasn’t with the program after practicing during the first week of camp. Before arriving in 'Death Valley' in January, Henderson was a Tigers commit for a long time.

In December 2023, he declared his commitment despite receiving offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, NC State, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and other schools.

During his high school days at Belton-Honea Path, Henderson set numerous records, accumulating over 8,200 all-purpose yards in 49 games. He scored 63 touchdowns on the ground while rushing for over 2,000 yards in both his junior and senior seasons. Through four seasons, he averaged 10.5 yards per carry.

Henderson is the first person to be dismissed from Clemson since linebacker TJ Dottery was removed two years ago for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
