The college football coaching carousel claims another victim.

With just one game left in the regular season, many teams are cutting ties with underperforming head coaches and getting a jump start on searching for a new leader ahead of bowl season.

Several head coaches have already been fired in-season — a list that includes Florida Atlantic (Tom Herman), Ball State (Mike Neu), East Carolina (Mike Houston), Charlotte (Biff Poggi), UMass (Don Brown), Rice (Mike Bloomgren), Temple (Stan Drayton), and Kennesaw State (Brian Bohannon).

Central Michigan is also looking for a new HC after Jim McElwain announced he will retired once the season ends as well.

Now Kevin Wilson joins the list of the unemployed as Tulsa is reportedly set to fire the second-year coach following a 63-30 loss to South Florida on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Wilson is the sixth coach in the American Athletic Conference to be fired this year joining Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Rice and Temple.

Wilson led the Golden Hurricane to a 4-8 record in 2023, his first with the team, and they were just 3-8 this year when they decided to move on from him. During his tenure, Tulsa lost nine games by 30 or more points.

Per Thamel, the administration at the school wanted to reset the football program with a culture change, and with the university wanting to invest heavily in football going forward with more money being poured into the program, it was decided Wilson wasn’t the guy to lead that endeavor.

Prior to Tulsa, Wilson had an unimpressive six-year stint as the head coach at Indiana, compiling a 26-47 record with one bowl loss.
