BYU and Utah State thrive, and so do star players across the Beehive State. Stars like Bear Bachmeier, LJ Martin, Bryson Barnes, Miles Davis, Reggie Graff, and Joshua Dye show why Utah is a great state for college football!
After having last week off, BYU returned against ECU. Bear Bachmeier improves with every series for BYU, and it helps he can rely on perhaps the best running back duo in the Big 12 and one of the best in the nation in LJ Martin and Sione Moa. The Cougar defense also continues to get better every game. Isaiah Glasker and Jack Kelly are making plays everywhere on defense, and special teams are still rock solid. BYU heads to Boulder next week to battle Coach Prime and his Colorado Buffaloes.
I thought Utah would take this game. The Utes battled against the Red Raiders, but Utah was slowly crushed by Texas Tech in the 34-10 defeat in Salt Lake City. Devon Dampier struggled, throwing two interceptions and fumbling twice, losing one. Utah was held to only 265 yards of total offense and gave up 485 yards on defense. Utah will look to rebound on a long road trip next week when they travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers.
The Aggies looked as good as they should have in their blowout win over McNeese. Utah State crushed McNeese, 48-7, at home in Logan. USU star quarterback Bryson Barnes was 19 of 27 for 293 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 13 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Running back Miles Davis had the whole Aggie offense humming with 13 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. Utah State travels to Nashville to take #20 Vanderbilt.
After a rough couple of games to start the season, Weber State has bounced back strong with two straight wins. The Wildcats blasted Butler this week, 38-24. WSU played well and improved as a team but no one stood out more than running back Davion Godley. Godley had 19 carries for 193 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Weber State hits the road to play UC Davis next. UC Davis has already beaten their brethren at Utah Tech and Southern Utah, so it will be up to Weber to avoid UC Davis sweeping the state of Utah.
That's how you start it!

After three tough early-season losses to top-20 teams, Utah Tech needed a win. They were competitive in all three losses, but moral victories need a tangible result. The Trailblazers got that against the Northern Iowa Panthers. The Utah Tech defense kept UNI out of the end zone, and star quarterback Reggie Graff got it done in the air and on the ground. Graff was 12 of 22 for 110 yards and a touchdown passing, along with 24 carries for 103 yards rushing. Tech travels to Austin Peay next week to try to get their second straight win.
After starting the season with a win, the Thunderbirds have lost three in a row. The good news is their offense hasn’t been the problem, averaging 39 points per game, but the defense has given up 39 points per game, too. The silver lining from the 50-34 loss to UC Davis is star running back, sophomore Joshua Dye who had 20 carries for 155 yards and touchdown. Dye has 538 yards and seven touchdowns this season. So, enjoy him, Thunderbirds fans. Next year, he’ll probably be playing for an FBS team. Wide receiver Gabe Nunez was great too, with eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. SUU welcomes West Georgia to Cedar City next week.
