College football is officially back. At 12 p.m. ET, the Week 0 schedule will kick off with an exciting showdown in Dublin, Ireland.
Iowa State and Kansas State have the honor of playing in the first game of the season. This should be an outstanding matchup between two offenses capable of lighting up the boxscore. The Wildcats are slight favorites in large part because they have a lot of returning talent on their roster. Junior quarterback Avery Johnson is hoping to build off a 2024 campaign where he completed 58.3% of his passes for 2,712 yards and 25 touchdowns against 10 int erceptions. He also had 605 rushing yards and seven scores on 113 carries.
Make no mistake, the Cyclones have a dynamic quarterback of their own in Rocco Becht. He completed 59.4% of his pass attempts last season for 3,505 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions. His best performance came in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Miami. The Florida native had 270 passing yards, four total touchdowns and no turnovers.
As of this Saturday morning, ESPN's matchup predictor gives Kansas State a 62.3% chance of defeating Iowa State.
While we're certainly amped up about the Iowa State-Kansas State matchup, it's not the only game on the schedule.
On Saturday night, Jalon Daniels and the Kansas Jayhawks will begin their season against the Fresno State Bulldogs. In 2022, the dual-threat quarterback had 2,014 passing yards, 419 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns. We'll see if he can finish his college career with an excellent season.
