College Football Playoff semifinal relocated from Rose Bowl to AT&T Stadium

The College Football Playoff semifinal that was supposed to take place at the Rose Bowl has been relocated to AT&T Stadium in Dallas, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses announced Saturday.

It's unclear whether the game will be allowed to use the iconic "Rose Bowl Game" tag, which is co-owned by the Tournament of Roses and Pasadena, California. If they can't use it, it could always be changed to the "Cellphone Game" for this year — we're kidding, of course.

The decision to move the game stems from various COVID-19 restrictions in California that prohibit people from attending sporting events. Players and coaches' families wouldn't have been able to attend the game.

It's not surprising the game had to be moved out of California. COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing in Los Angeles County with officials announcing 13,756 new cases and 60 more deaths on Saturday.

The Rose Bowl has been played annually since 1916, making it the longest-running bowl game in college football. This is the first time since 1942 that the game won't be played at the Rose Bowl stadium.

The four teams elected to the College Football Playoff are expected to be announced on Sunday.
