Colorado Has Landed Its Replacement For Shedeur Sanders

After a record-setting career at Colorado, quarterback Shedeur Sanders is heading to the NFL this spring, where he will likely be a first-round draft pick. That leaves his starting job open for 2025, though head coach Deion Sanders may have already found his replacement.

According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports , Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter has transferred to Colorado. He will presumably be the team's starter in 2025.

"Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter has signed with Colorado, @On3sports has learned," Nakos wrote on X.

Salter had a pedestrian 2024 season with the Liberty, going 8-3 as a starter while completing 56.3-percent of his passes for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns with six interceptions. But the 2023 version of Salter is the one that Coach Prime covets.

In 2023, Salter had one of the best seasons for a Group of Five quarterback all season. He completed 61-percent of his passes for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns, scoring a touchdown on a whopping 11-percent of his passes that year.

For his efforts, he earned Conference USA MVP honors and was the MVP of the Conference USA Championship Game. Liberty would go on to finish 13-1 and were ranked No. 25 in the AP poll.

Salter may have a tough time in his first year with the Buffaloes though. It's debatable whether he's on the same talent level as Shedeur, but he's going to be without one of the team's top players in Travis Hunter, who is also following Shedeur to the NFL. Hunter accounted for over a quarter of the team's passing yardage and more than a third of their passing touchdowns this season.

And Hunter isn't the only Colorado star slated to leave after the upcoming Alamo Bowl. At least two of their other top four receivers are likely to leave as well.

Suffice it to say, Salter will need to get attuned to the offense very quickly if he wants his first (and likely only) year in Colorado to be a good one.

And all of that is still assuming that Deion Sanders is planning on staying in Colorado as well...
