Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers are on a roll on the 2024 recruiting trail, and now they can celebrate their first big win of the 2025 cycle.
Gideon Davidson, 4-star running back from Lynchburg, Virginia, has become Swinney's first commitment to the class of 2025.
I’m ALL IN! Whose next in the 2025 class? Clemson is definitely the place to be. @BraydenJacobs77 @JaylanBeckley @EziomumeDaee @DavidLSandersJr @nateroberts2025 https://t.co/AykZFtGXlS

Davidson's commitment is a nice start for Clemson in 2025, as the rankings suggest he could be pretty good at the college level. According to 247Sports, he's the No. 3 running back recruit in his class as well as a Top 70 player nationally (No. 67).
"I love the culture at Clemson,” Davidson told 247Sports. “Genuine family feeling. A sense that they care about me beyond my football ability. Emphasize academics. I really think I'm going to like the PAW program. Players and/or coaches not getting in trouble or having incidents off the field.
"They want to win. They expect to win. And they win a lot. I like that." Clemson beat out the likes of Michigan, Oregon, USC, Penn State, Ohio State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Iowa State for Davidson's commitment. It is worth mentioning that he still has a junior and senior year in high school to complete — so there's plenty of time to go in his recruitment — but it sounds like Clemson is a perfect fit for him and his family.
"This really was a pretty easy decision in the end,” Davidson’s dad, Brian, said. “No perfect coaches, teammates or educational institutions, but Clemson comes the closest to that in our book."
Davidson was born in Ghana and had to live in an orphanage with two of his brothers until he was 18 months old. He and his brothers became part of the Davidson family in 2011.
