Dabo Unleashes Truth Bomb on Cade Klubnik Hype: 'It Can't Be Your Fire!'

CLEMSON, SC – In a powerful message about mental fortitude and intrinsic motivation, Head Coach Dabo Swinney explained how star quarterback Cade Klubnik navigates the relentless external narratives that surround him. Swinney made it clear that while outside opinions can be "fuel," they can never be the "fire" that drives a player.

"Last year this time they said he's terrible so he had to block that out," Swinney recalled at Media Day, referencing Klubnik's early career criticism. "You got to block out that you suck, you got to block out that Sweeney should have went and got a portal guy over you… But you also got to block out oh you're the Heisman, oh you're the greatest thing ever literally 12 months later."

Swinney stressed that for both coaches and players, external opinions "can't be your motivation." He noted Klubnik's significant improvements last year – taking care of the ball, pushing it downfield, using his legs – but emphasized that "last year doesn't carry over."
