The Oregon Ducks received some huge recruiting news for the 2026 class back on May 10th, when five-star Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive end Richard Wesley went viral jumping into a pool with head coach Dan Lanning while declaring his commitment. As we learned shortly after that visit, the Wesley family was not supportive of that impulsive decision. They wanted him to go through his process, finish the visits, and then make a solid decision.
Just a couple of weeks after, Wesley backed off of that commitment. That doesn't mean that the California native doesn't love Oregon, and as of now, they are still the leader for the talented defender. However, Wesley and his family are still open and listening.
For the first time since that awkward situation, Wesley will head back to Eugene this weekend for his official visit. Wesley also has official visits set for Texas later this month, and he is fresh off of an Ohio State trip as well. How well this visit goes this weekend will go a long way to see if the Ducks do end up winning in the end, once again.

Originally a member of the 2027 recruiting class, Wesley made the decision to reclassify to the 2026 class after this junior season. During that campaign, the 6-5, 250-pound defensive end managed to collect 44 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and nine sacks. Wesley also posted another eight quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.
The California standout is considered a near-consensus five-star recruiting for the 2026 class. The 247Sports Composite ranking currently has him rated as the No. 14 overall player, No. 2 EDGE, and No. 3 player in the state of California in the class. The On3 Industry ranking also has Wesley rated as a five-star player, currently sitting as the No. 25 overall player and No. 4 EDGE nationally.
A long list of impressive programs have pursued Wesley heavily. Some of the top offers for Wesley include Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, UCLA, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, Arizona State, Nebraska, UNC, Washington, Washington State, Minnesota, SMU, and Cal among others.
