Oklahoma Sooners linebacker Danny Stutsman shared an endearing story with reporters after being drafted by the New Orleans Saints. He had a plan for draft day that paid off, showing just how practical and crafty he can be.
Stutsman told reporters that he didn't get a shipment of NFL hats from New Era, Saints Wire reported. So instead, he went to Lids and bought 11 teams' NFL hats.
One of those hats was for the Saints, and he'll be keeping that one.
He said he even saved the receipt and will be returning the other hats to get his money back.
"I had a 33% chance of being right," he jokingly told Saints Wire and other reporters.
Jeff Nowak of Audacy Sports shared the same story on X, noting that Stutsman bought "all the hats he might need for today."
Nowak added: "He had one workout in the process and it was with the Saints. He felt good about it, and he lands in New Orleans."
Ross Jackson, host of Locked on Saints, said about the hats: "Very fiscally responsible guy. "
Stutsman is a strong pick for the Saints. He started 37 out of 47 games at Oklahoma and led the team twice in tackles, with 36 tackles for loss in his time at OU. Saints Wire noted that needs to work on his pass coverage, but he's good at disrupting pass lanes.
Stutsman was the No. 112 overall pick in the fourth round. Shortly after, OU defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. was drafted as the overall No. 118 pack to a rival NFL team, the Atlanta Falcons.
