Colorado and its supporters were on the edge of their seats Saturday night, anxiously watching Houston's showdown with BYU — a game that carried enormous stakes for the Buffaloes' postseason aspirations.

Colorado would have secured a spot in the Big 12 title game if Houston had pulled off the upset. Unfortunately for the Buffs, BYU dashed those hopes with a decisive 30-18 victory.

With the result, a series of tiebreakers paved the way for Iowa State and Arizona State to clash for the Big 12 championship, leaving Colorado and BYU on the outside looking in. All four teams finished 7-2 in Big 12 play.

It was a tall order for Houston, which entered as a 9.5-point underdog. However, they struck first, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. But a costly misstep shifted the momentum.

After taking the lead, Houston attempted an onside kick that backfired spectacularly. BYU scooped it up and ran it back for a touchdown, swinging the momentum in their favor in front of a home crowd.

Deion Sanders Jr. was not a big fan of the move, criticizing it in a now-deleted tweet. However, he did agree with a fan who responded, saying Houston was throwing the game.

"Gotta be… never seen nothing like it. Especially in an away game," Deion Sanders Jr. said.

Deion Sanders Jr., the eldest son of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, is often seen around the Buffaloes team, capturing behind-the-scenes footage.

Houston surged late, but a fumble on a fourth down play essentially sealed the victory for BYU. Colorado offensive lineman Justin Mayers expressed his frustration on social media.

"Bro the Houston QB must have gotten paid by BYU. Ain’t no way," Mayers wrote on X.

Colorado won't play for the Big 12 championship but will get to compete in a quality bowl game. Some likely destinations include the Alamo Bowl or the Holiday Bowl.
