Deion Sanders Made Concerning Admission After Colorado's Loss To BYU

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are still adjusting to life without Travis Hunter and his son, Shedeur. And Coach Prime made that very evident with his comments after the program's loss to BYU on Saturday

The Buffs missed a golden opportunity over the weekend to steal a massive win over a Top 25 opponent at home, but fumbled away a 14-10 halftime lead with some tough play down the stretch.

After the game, Deion talked about where he thought things went wrong for he and his team as they fell to 2-3.

Deion calls on Buffs to 'step up'

“Tough fought game,” Sanders told reporters following the 24-21 loss. “I can’t say I’m highly upset, I’m upset with a few things, but sometimes when it seems like you have more talent, but you didn’t quite win the game, it makes it feel somewhat awkward."

"We had opportunities, a tremendous amount of opportunities, but nevertheless, we didn’t cash in on it," Coach Prime explained. "And sometimes it felt like the moment was just too big for some of our athletes. And they got to do something about that."

“At halftime, we challenged certain positions to go out there and up their game, challenge their opponents. We didn’t get that. We got the same thing that we had in the first half. We gotta do better as a staff, as a team, and I’ve got to do better. Let’s go.”

Coach Prime not making excuses for his players

“We can try but they have to step up,” Sanders said of his players. “I am not going to make excuses for them. They have to step up. I don’t know what else I can say about it. They are prepared, they are studying film, same thing that we saw on the scout team, the same plays they ran tonight."

"It was a great scouting output for the staff. We just have to step up and make the plays that were there," he concluded. "We had tremendous opportunities to make the plays that were there. We just didn’t.”

Unfortunately, quarterback play was once again an issue for CU which was punctuated by Kaidon Salter's 22-yard sack in the fourth quarter.

The Liberty transfer finished 11-of-16 on his pass attempts for just 116 yards with a touchdown and an interception — and he also carried the ball a game-high 17 times for 49 yards and another score.

Colorado goes on the road to TCU next Saturday where the Buffs will face the Horned Frogs Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth — the place where Deion got his first win as the coach of the Buffaloes in Week 1 of 2023.
