Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes didn't finish the 2025 college football season the way they'd hoped. They went just 3-9 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 matchups. It was a major step down after going 9-4 in 2024 and making an Alamo Bowl appearance, losing to the BYU Cougars.
While struggling to put wins on the board, Deion watched as his son, and former Colorado quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, played his rookie season for the Cleveland Browns. As a fifth-round pick, he began the season as the third-string quarterback on the Browns' unofficial depth chart behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
After beginning the year on the bench, Sanders made his NFL debut in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens and earned his first start in Week 12 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He remained the starter until the end of the season.
He flashed in eight games, completing 120-of-212 passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 68.1 passer rating. He also rushed for 169 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries.
As he gears up for his second season with the Browns, Sanders revealed he will be switching from No. 12 to No. 2. Shortly after the announcement, Deion reacted to the change via an Instagram post.
"Yes Lawd! #2 is who he is, now let the church shout AMEN!" he wrote.
It's a special change for the young quarterback. He wore No. 2 during his time with the Jackson State Tigers and the Buffaloes. During Colorado's Black & Gold spring game on April 19, 2025, the team retired the number, along with former teammate Travis Hunter's No. 12.
While Deion approves, Sanders' return to No. 2 marks a full-circle moment as he heads into his second year with Cleveland.
