After losing star cornerback and Heisman trophy recipient Travis Hunter to the NFL Draft this past April, Colorado Head Coach Deion Sanders made a splash in the recruiting cycle, landing four-star cornerback Preston Ashley, per On3.

Ashley, a Class of 2026 prospect, is ranked as the No. 22 cornerback in his class and the 249th-best overall recruit.

The Mississippi native chose the Buffaloes over Florida and Florida State, but fielded offers from several Power Five programs.

“I fit like a glove there with the system they run,” Ashley said in an interview with On3. “Coach Livingston put Travis Hunter and other guys in position to make plays, and I think I can do that, too.”

Last season, the 5-foot-10 defensive playmaker tallied 68 tackles and one interception for Brandon High School, located in Mississippi.

Ashley is the third player from the 2026 cycle to commit to Colorado, joining tight end Gavin Mueller and edge rusher Domata Peko Jr. Mueller and Peko both are three-star prospects.

Colorado, a program coming off its second season competing in the Big 12 Conference, finished the 2024 campaign 9-4 and ranked No. 25.

The Buffaloes will kick off the 2025 season at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, at home against Georgia Tech.
