Deion Sanders Sends Message to Shedeur Sanders Amid Unfortunate Designation

Despite many predicting that he would be a first-round pick in this year's draft, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders ultimately fell to the fifth round. To make matters worse for the Colorado Buffaloes alum, he has yet to make his NFL debut seven weeks in despite showing some flashes in the preseason.

In two preseason games, Sanders recorded a total of 152 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions on 17-for-29 (58.6%) passing. Furthermore, he was just the emergency third quarterback for Cleveland to begin the season, and even after the Browns traded Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, he remains the backup.

On Tuesday, the 23-year-old shared a message on Instagram that caught the attention of many, including his father and NFL legend Deion Sanders.

"The greatest lesson I've learned through it all is not to worry but to lean on and trust GOD in every situation. Even when I don't know what to do, I've learned that GOD will always guide me. I live stress-free because I know that, no matter what, GOD has the final say over my life," Sanders wrote.

"I'm able to persevere through trials because I come from a family built on morals, values, and unshakable principles. Growing up, I had access to a lot, and maybe without my understanding shaped my world view, but I've realized that peace, purpose, and faith can't be bought. They have to be built. True success is who you become while waiting on GOD's timing. GOD's pace protects what your purpose will one day require."

The Pro Football Hall of Famer left a comment on his son's post: "Amen! Son."

What's Next for Shedeur Sanders With the Cleveland Browns?

It is understandable for many to wonder when Sanders' name will get called, especially after Cleveland chose another rookie, third-rounder Dillon Gabriel, over him as its starting quarterback. However, it is important to remember that he is the team's primary backup quarterback now, and he is reportedly putting in the work to improve.

Furthermore, it seems that Sanders is impressing those within the Browns organization. This could lead to him getting his opportunity sooner rather than later (h/t Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com).

“Sanders has been working on every aspect of his game, from throwing out of the shotgun and under center, to play-action, to his footwork and everything else to be prepared to play when his number is called. He’s also worked on RPOs [run-pass options], keepers, and other QB movement skills because those are a big part of the Browns offense," Cabot wrote.

“Myles Garrett also revealed recently that he sees Sanders working with Kevin Stefanski in his office in the early morning hours, which means he’s putting in the extra work. It’s showing up on the practice field, and the Browns are eager to see what he can do this season when the time comes.”

There are reasons for many to look forward to Sanders' NFL debut.

Not only did he look solid in preseason, but he had a fantastic year in college last season. In 13 games with Colorado, Sanders recorded 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 74% of his passes. He finished eighth in Heisman Trophy balloting.

However, it is also important for the Browns not to rush him to avoid ruining his development. It seems like he is making the steps necessary to earn a bigger role with the team, and it may be just a matter of time before he sees the field and showcases exactly what he brings to the table.

The Browns (2-5) visit the New England Patriots (5-2) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox.
