Former LSU WR Kyren Lacy passed away on Saturday night, and now the details of his death have been revealed.
On Sunday afternoon, the Harris County Sheriff Office announced that Lacy died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while in a car chase with the police.
At 11:15 p.m., Harris County Police officers responded to a 911 call, where they learned that Lacy was in an argument with a family member and discharged a firearm into the ground before driving away in his car.
Officers located Lacy about 20 minutes later, but he fled the scene and was involved in a car chase before crashing. When officers finally got him out of the car, they realized Lacy had shot himself, and he was then pronounced dead at the scene. Police, who used dash cam and body cam footage to confirm, said no shots were fired after the car crash.
Lacy began his college career at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette before he transferred to LSU in 2022. In three seasons with the Tigers, Lacy amassed 1,500+ receiving yards and scored 16 touchdowns. He was the Tigers' WR1 last season and entered his name into the NFL Draft in December.
A few days before he entered his name into the draft, he was involved in a car accident which killed a man. Lacy fled the scene and was later charged with felony hit-and-run, negligent homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle.
After that news was reported, Lacy was not invited to the NFL Combine, and his draft stock was in jeopardy. A grand jury was set to start hearing evidence on his case on Monday.
