Despite playing only nine games this season, Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola took some huge strides in his development as a passer. Unfortunately, a noteworthy firing on Saturday has fans concerned that Raiola might leave the program.
Earlier this afternoon, Nebraska announced the dismissal of offensive line coach Donovan Raiola - Dylan Raiola's uncle. The coach had been with the program since 2022
"Nebraska is set to fire assistant coach Donovan Raiola, per Rivals’ Greg Smith and On3’s Pete Nakos. He’s been the offensive line coach for the Cornhuskers since 2022, and he’s also the uncle of sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola," On3 Sports reported.
"The move comes after there’s been rumblings of his nephew considering transferring away from Lincoln. Earlier in November, coach Matt Rhule stated he has no knowledge of anything that would lead him to believe that idea, which came from an earlier report from CBS Sports that there was “doubt” regarding the quarterback’s future with the Cornhuskers."

The announcement comes on the heels of his brother Dayton Raiola decommitting from Nebraska.
Rhule may not believe it, but the fans sure do. Just about everyone is declaring that Dylan Raiola is as good as gone after this news. Most fans believe that Raiola will continue to emulate Patrick Mahomes by going to Texas Tech instead:
"Dylan on the way to Texas Tech as we speak," one user joked.
"Get ready to learn Guns Up, Dylan Raiola...." another wrote.
"Dylan going to Texas Tech just announce it. He’s gotta keep the cosplay going," wrote a third.
2025 was primed to be a banner year for Raiola. He went 6-3 as a starter, completing 72.4% of his passes for 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns with just six interceptions - all significant improvements over last year.
Raiola suffered a broken fibula in early-November, ending his season prematurely. The team finished 7-5 overall and will play the Las Vegas Bowl.
Will Raiola still be part of the Huskers when that game kicks off?
