The first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff is just around the corner, with the first round set to kick off on Dec. 20.
Ahead of the first-round slate, ESPN released its updated Football Power Index (FPI) rankings. This computer-generated system calculates team statistics on offense and defense, as well as strength of schedule.
In the latest FPI rankings, ESPN listed the Texas Longhorns as the team most likely to win this year's national championship. The FPI gives Texas a 24% chance of hoisting the title trophy and a 40% chance to make the final game.
Texas heads into the CFP as the No. 5 team in the nation, following an SEC title game loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Here's a look at four teams with a first-round bye and their national title odds.
No. 1 Oregon Ducks: 9.8%
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs: 15.8%
No. 3 Boise State Broncos: 1.8%
No. 4: Arizona State Sun Devils: 1.8%
The Longhorns played in their first season in the SEC in 2024. They finished the season with an 11-2 record, suffering both losses to the Bulldogs.
Texas has three ranked wins on the year, defeating No. 10 Michigan, No. 20 Texas A&M and No. 25 Vanderbilt.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are led by quarterback Quinn Ewers and linebacker Anthony Hill.
So far this season, Ewers has produced 25 touchdowns and 2,665 yards with a 66.2 completion percentage.
On the defensive side, Hill has recorded one interception, four forced fumbles, 7.5 sacks and 90 tackles.
The Longhorns will begin their College Football Playoff journey on Dec. 21 against the No. 12 Clemson Tigers at 4 p.m. ET.
