Oklahoma State won a thriller over the weekend, but a few plays stood out most.

In OSU’s 39-32 win against Kansas, it scored its most points all season and helped move the Cowboys to 4-2. While there were plenty of explosive plays, particularly in the first half, the Cowboys’ win hinged on just a handful.

Five key plays from OSU vs. Kansas:

The Flea Flicker

After the Cowboys scored on their first possession and forced a punt by the Jayhawks, they threatened to go up double digits early. The Cowboys made it to the Kansas 20-yard line, where Brennan Presley lined up in the backfield behind Alan Bowman.

Bowman handed the ball off to Presley, who immediately tossed it back to him and ran out to the right. Bowman threw it to Presley, who turned upfield and made a couple of Jayhawks defenders miss on his way to the end zone for a 14-0 lead.

Ollie’s Touchdown Run

While Ollie Gordon had a spectacular day, his second touchdown may have been his most important play. After the Cowboys’ offense had stalled for a few possessions, it had the ball in Jayhawks’ territory trailing 19-17.

From the Kansas 42, Gordon took the handoff going left before cutting back up the middle. Gordon burst past multiple Kansas defenders and left them behind on his way to the end zone to give OSU the lead back late in the second quarter.

Kansas Extends the Lead

Shortly after Gordon’s touchdown, the Jayhawks scored another touchdown just before halftime to take a one-point lead. They also got the ball first in the second half and took advantage of their opportunity.

After marching across midfield, Kansas quarterback Jason Bean threw his fifth touchdown of the day. This time, it was Quentin Skinner streaking past the OSU defense for a 42-yard score to give Kansas its largest lead of the game at 32-24.

Collin Oliver gets to Bean

In a fourth-and-five with less than seven minutes left, Kansas elected to keep its offense on the field. A couple of OSU field goals closed the deficit to two, making the Jayhawks’ play on the OSU 40-yard line critical.

Bean took the snap, but with Collin Oliver running in, the play went nowhere. Oliver got to Bean, forcing him to lose the ball, which a Kansas lineman recovered at midfield.

BP Scores Again

After Oliver helped get the Cowboys offense the ball back, Brennan Presley finished it off. With under three minutes to go, the Cowboys had a first-and-goal at the six following Jaden Nixon’s third down conversion.

Presley took a handoff running left, this time keeping it, and followed a blocker toward the goal line. Presley fell backward into the end zone to put the Cowboys back in the lead.

Kansas had a couple of chances to score but never crossed midfield as the Cowboys secured the win. Creativity was key in the OSU win, and if it can create more opportunities to get Presley and Gordon in the open field, OSU could build a solid winning streak.
