The Longhorns have steadily made their way through fall camp, with many players landing themselves on watch lists for a variety of awards headed into the 2025 season. But just over a week away from the season, the coaches’ All-SEC teams were announced, and head coach Steve Sarkisian had five players selected to the first team.
As voted by the coaches, the five Longhorns selected were running back Quintrevion Wisner, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., EDGE Colin Simmons, safety Michael Taaffe, and offensive lineman DJ Campbell.
Last season, Wisner was able to rush for 1,064 yards and five touchdowns on 226 carries. He also proved himself to be a threat in the passing game, catching 44 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown.
Although Wisner is extremely talented, his abilities were enhanced by Campbell, who has been a key component of a very talented and high-quality offensive line. He contributed to former quarterback Quin Ewers’ success, as well as Baxter’s last season, and he will do the same thing for Baxter and new starting quarterback Ar ch Manning this year.
Hill and Simmons were also major factors in the defense, specifically around the defensive line, last year. The two of them combined for 161 total tackles, 17 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
Although both of their roles are extremely valuable to the Texas defense, Taaffe also plays a significant role in the defense’s success. Taaffe, originally a walk-on, recorded 40 solo tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.
The trio of defensive players is all deserving of the first team nominations, and they will all play valuable roles in defensive success for the Longhorns in 2025. But it will also be interesting to see how Wisner will perform with Campbell leading the way, as they both now have an extra year of experience and have improved themselves as players.
