Lincoln Riley and USC have been on fire this spring in the recruiting realm. Boasting the No. 1 class in the country, the Trojans own nearly 30 commitments.
But on Wednesday, USC received disappointing news when its top commit, five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin, decommitted. This is a big blow for USC, but for other programs, it's a second chance to land the five-star.
On Thursday, the Alabama Crimson Tide received major news when 247Sports' Benjamin Wolk logged a prediction for Griffin to land in Tuscaloosa.
The Gainesville, Georgia, native had been committed to USC since July 27, 2024. Ranked as the No. 22 player in the country and No. 2 linebacker in the 2026 class according to The 247Sports Composite, Griffin racked up 43 tackles and six sacks in an injury-riddled junior season.
The 6-foot-3 200 200-pound linebacker has official visits scheduled to Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, USC, and Florida State.
According to 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins, Griffin has shades of former Alabama star and first round pick Jihaad Campbell.
"Multi-faceted defender with a top-flight testing profile that should offer both on- and off-ball linebacker as he can rush the passer and stack against the run while also dropping back into coverage," Ivins said.
With just five commitments, Alabama's 2026 class is ranked No. 37 according to 247Sports, but boasts a five-star commit in Jorden Edmonds and four four-star prospects.
The Crimson Tide is starting with defense, as all five commits are on the defensive side of the ball.
