The opening weekend of the 2025 high school football season delivered no shortage of storylines, but all eyes were on Mater Dei wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. as he made his long-awaited return to the field.

The 2026 five-star Ohio State commit helped power the defending national champions to a 26–23 win over perennial Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in the Broward National Football Showcase, hauling in four catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

It was Henry’s first game action since a season-ending knee injury last year, and his performance served as a reminder of why he’s one of the most coveted recruits in the country.

Chris Henry Jr. Reinforces Buckeye Commitment

“I felt great about my performance,” Henry told Rivals Marcus Benjamin following the win. “As far as my rehab, I just kept my head down and trusted in God. That’s all, it was just leaning on God.”

At 6-foot-5 and close to 200 pounds, Henry’s size and explosiveness make him an ideal fit for Ohio State’s offense — and it’s why head coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Brian Hartline have made keeping him in the fold a top priority. According to Henry, that bond remains as strong as ever.

“It’s been great since I got the offer. Ain’t nothing changed,” Henry told Benjamin. “I still have a great relationship with Coach Hartline and Coach Day. I’m just blessed.”

While Oregon and Texas continue to push in hopes of flipping him, Henry isn’t showing signs of wavering. “They are still hitting me up, but I’m at Ohio State,” he said.

The standout receiver plans to be in Columbus on August 30 when Ohio State opens its season against Texas. For now, that’s the only visit on his schedule, reinforcing that his commitment to the Buckeyes remains firm — even as other national powers circle.
