Florida, Billy Napier Log Recruiting Win Over Ohio State On Sunday

Head coach Billy Napier and the Florida Gators fought off Ohio State for a much-needed recruiting win on Sunday.

The Gators used the momentum from a promising 8-5 season to sign the nation's No. 10 class in the 2025 cycle. That finish painted a bright picture on the recruiting trail moving forward, yet UF hasn't received much good news in that aspect.

Florida entered the day with just one commit in four-star quarterback Will Griffin out of Tampa, Florida.

Napier and Co. did take a step in the right direction by landing defensive lineman Jamir Perez on Sunday out of Ohio State's backyard.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Cleveland, Ohio, native chose UF over the Buckeyes, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. Florida had hosted Perez on an official visit over the weekend.

“In the Swamp, let’s get to it!! I’m Home!" Perez said via On3.

Perez plays for Cleveland's Glenville High School, where he ranks as the No. 28 defensive lineman and the No. 19 player in the state, per Rivals

It remains to be seen if Perez will keep his official visit schedule as is after pledging to the Gators.

He previously scheduled trips to Vanderbilt (May 29), Wisconsin (June 6), Iowa State (June 10), Cincinnati (June 13), Ohio State (June 20) and Purdue (June 20).

With Perez in the fold, Florida can narrow its focus elsewhere. And things seem to be heating up around the recruitment of elite offensive tackle Felix Ojo, who is also coming off an official visit to UF.

Ojo (6-foot-7, 274 pounds) plays for Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas. He is rated as the nation's No. 3 offensive tackle, the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 4 overall recruit in his class (On3).

Ojo, who is also considering Texas and Ohio State, among others, revealed that Florida made quite the impression over the weekend.

“I would say they fit very high on my list,” Ojo said via On3's Steve Wiltfong. “I don’t want to say anything like top, top, but they most definitely have a chance in my recruiting process. If anyone thought they didn’t, they most definitely do now.”
