Florida Destroys Ole Miss' College Football Playoff Chances With Upset Win

Coming into this weekend, Ole Miss was on track to make the College Football Playoff. When the new rankings come out though, that will no longer be the case.

No. 9 Ole Miss was upset by unranked Florida this Saturday in The Swamp. Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart had a fine performance in the first half for the Rebels, but he had a costly interception with under two minutes remaining. He received a second chance to be the hero late in the fourth quarter thanks to a stop from his defense. And yet, he was unable to get the job done. In fact, he threw a second interception in crunch time. That one slammed the door shut on the game and most likely the team's playoff chances.

Ole Miss knew it couldn't afford another loss this season. At 8-3 now, it's tough to envision a scenario where the Rebels get into the playoff.

Georgia, Tennessee, Boise State and SMU will almost certainly leapfrog Ole Miss in the new rankings.

While the vibes in Oxford are brutal right now, Gainesville is absolutely rocking this weekend. That's back-to-back wins were Florida knocked off a formidable opponent. Last week, Florida took down LSU.

Florida quarterback DJ Lagway wasn't perfect by any means this afternoon. He completed 10-of-17 passes for 180 yards, two touchdowns and interception. The freshman made enough big plays though to keep Billy Napier's offense ahead of the chains.

It'll be fascinating to see where Ole Miss ends up in the rankings next week. All we know for certain is the Rebels will be out of the top 12.
