Florida Football Dealt Bad News on Tuesday
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Gators are heading into a 2025 season that will have plenty of hope, expectations and pressure surrounding it.

Head coach Billy Napier spent most of last season on the hot seat before it was revealed he'd be given another chance in 2025. The Gators ended up finishing 8-5, securing the program's first season above .500 since 2020.

As he and the team look to build off of their strong finish to the year, they have been dealt with a bit of adversity on Tuesday. As reported by the Gainesville Sun, one of the members of the team's 2025 recruiting class was arrested and taken to the Alachua Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

The player's information was released due to the fact that they are 17-years-old. However, Kevin Brockway was able to confirm what the player was detained for.

"An incoming Florida football freshman has been arrested on a third-degree felony charge of false imprisonment (dating violence) following an alleged altercation on June 1," Brockway wrote.

The school did release a statement on the matter as well, but are still in the investigative process.

"We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative process," the spokesperson told Brockway.

The report revealed that the incident occurred after a verbal argument occurred following the player finding something on the victim's cellular device. It then became "physical" as the unnamed player pushed the victim onto a bed and shook her, while holding her down.

Brockway also confirmed that the alleged victim accused the player of choking her, punching her in the face, preventing her from leaving and throwing her phone at a wall. While the player is not named, the report did reveal they weighed "close to 400 pounds," outweighing the alleged victim by over 200 pounds.

The player reportedly denied choking the alleged victim, and also denied preventing her from leaving.

The Gators signed a 19-man class for 2025, ranking as the No. 7 class in the country.
