Recruiting has been a major focus for the Florida Gators. Head coach Jon Sumrall has been on fire since the beginning of April, and it’s continuing. It’s a major win for the Gators to get a commitment from Dillard, who becomes the first safety in the 2027 class, adding to the secondary with four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain and four-star cornerback Amare Nugent. It’s also the second commitment of the day, with four-star offensive tackle Elijah Hutcheson committing earlier in the day.
This is a really nice addition for the Gators. His brother, Malakai, was a wide receiver in the 2026 class. Kailib is a really good run defender, fitting the run extremely well from the roof as a point and shoot safety. He’s more than willing to play the run with physicality and consistency. Dillard also flashes good ball skills in coverage, seeing the ball well in the air, and attacking the ball. He’s got some really good ball skills as well, something that comes from his skill set as a wide receiver.
With the Gators, Dillard is going to be a safety, entering a room that has a lot of questions within it. Cam Dooley and Bryce Thornton are the likely starters, with Drake Stubbs, Lagonza Hayward, and Alfonzo Allen Jr. being the depth pieces. Dillard could make an impact as a true freshman with a good spring practice, and that’s worth keeping an eye on when he arrives on campus.
Dillard is the 11th commitment in the 2027 class for Sumrall.
