Florida Gators defender in transfer portal sends mixed messages about his future

The Florida Gators are in a really good spot right now. Head coach Billy Napier has done a really good job in getting the majority of the roster locked up for the 2025 season and beyond and DJ Lagway is ready to start throwing.

Like most teams, they did have a couple of players choose to enter the transfer portal in the spring window. It's not that uncommon, but certainly disappointing.

Gregory Smith sends mixed messages

The biggest entrant in the transfer portal was safety Gregory Smith. As a true freshman, he played in five games for the Gators, but was able to keep his redshirt status alive with one of those coming during a bowl game.

He spent time at Miami after entering the portal and was on Twitter/X sharing pictures of his visit to North Carolina.

It feels like a likely destination for Smith, as his former teammate at Florida defensive lineman D'antre Robinson committed there over the weekend. They would be heading there with multiple years of eligibility.

What's even more interesting is the latest post from Smith. It was a thank you to the Gators football team for giving him the Fred Taylor most improved freshman award.

It's likley just Smith saying thank you to the program for giving him the award. However, there could be a little something more to it. You don't often see a player tweet about their former school while they are in the transfer portal.

In the world of the transfer portal where things can change in an instant, it's worth keeping tabs on Smith's recruitiment.
