Florida State QB: 'I’m as confident as I’ve ever been'

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis is certainly one of the players on the short list of Heisman Trophy candidates for the 2023 college football season.

USC's Caleb Williams is the favorite to repeat and North Carolina's Drake Maye is getting a ton of hype, but it's tough not to like what Travis brings to the table for FSU heading into his sixth season (due to a redshirt year plus COVID season eligibility.)

Travis is coming off a season that saw him throw for 3,214 yards and 24 touchdowns for the Seminoles with just five interceptions. He also rushed for 417 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

Considering those numbers and another offseason of experience under his belt, Travis naturally feels good heading into the upcoming season.

“I’m as confident as I’ve ever been,” Travis told Warchant TV (h/t On3). “Obviously, going into my sixth year of college it’s time to flip that switch and become confident. But when you have teammates like I have, it’s pretty easy to be confident."

“When you have a strong offensive line, receivers across the field, you can throw it up and they’ll get it. The defense is really good … it’s a blessing, man.”

FSU is coming off a 10-3 season in Mike Norvell's third as head coach, and the Seminoles are undoubtedly considered one of the favorites to make the College Footballs Playoff. In fact, getting Florida State into the CFP chase is the expectation in Tallahassee in 2023, and that's something that hasn't been a realistic expectation since the early years of Jimbo Fisher's tenure as head coach.

“Obviously the players. Coach [Mike] Norvell, usually does not speak about it much. But he did bring it up this year. We know who we have," Travis continued. "We have athletes across the field who can match up with anyone across the country. No doubt in my mind. We know how hard we work. We know what type of people we are."

“I just feel like everyone’s been through so much in their careers, we’re willing to put it all on the line and get Florida State what they deserve.”

As of now, FSU has 18-1 odds to win it all.
