Tommy Castellanos and the Florida State Seminoles pulled off arguably the biggest upset in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season, taking down Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide 31-17 on Saturday night in Tallahassee. Florida State was able to win the game by 14 points despite being 13.5-point underdogs (ESPN BET).

Castellanos, who transferred from Boston College over the offseason, had a solid debut to begin his tenure with the Seminoles. The senior from Waycross, GA, completed 9-of-14 passes for 152 yards while adding 78 yards and another score on the ground.

However, despite leading an FSU team that went 2-10 in 2024 to a win over a top-ten-ranked opponent in Alabama, Castellanos was not named the ACC Quarterback of the Week.

Instead, the ACC gave the Week 1 award to Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets quarterback Haynes King.

King had a solid start to his sixth college football season, leading Georgia Tech to a 27-20 win on the road against Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. The former Texas A&M quarterback completed 13-of-20 passes for 143 yards and one interception, adding 156 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as well. He even scored the go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the fourth.

While King played well enough to earn ACC Quarterback of the Week honors, some still prefer Castellanos. That likely comes down to the opponents each faced, with Castellanos leading a win over No. 8 Alabama and King beating an unranked, rebuilding Colorado team.

However, FSU center Luke Pettibon did win the ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week award.

Castellanos and Florida State will be back in action during Week 2, hosting the East Texas A&M Lions at noon ET.
