The Stanford Cardinal bolstered their offense by adding former Wisconsin wide receiver C.J. Williams on Friday. Williams, the No. 62 prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, originally committed to the USC Trojans before transferring to the Badgers in January 2023.
Williams collected 16 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. Born in Mission Viejo, California, the 6-foot-2, 193-pound pass-catcher was a four-star recruit on 247Sports who first chose the Trojans over offers from Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, Stanford and others.
In Stanford's first year in the ACC, along with California and SMU, the Cardinal finished with a 3-9 record and two wins in conference play against Syracuse and Louisville.

In addition to Williams, Wisconsin lost wide receiver Will Pauling, the Badgers' leading receiver last season, to the transfer portal. Earlier this month, Wisconsin announced the hiring of offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, who has had previous stints with Kansas, Baylor and BYU.
Williams has one year of eligibility remaining.
Stanford will enter Year 3 with head coach Troy Taylor, who has won the 2019 Eddie Robinson Award, given annually to the top FCS head coach. At his previous job with Sacramento State, Taylor guided the Hornets to three Big Sky Conference championships.
