Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is heading into year three at the helm, and is hoping that his No. 19-ranked transfer portal class can help sustain the success that the team had in 2024 when they went 9-4.
Among the bigger names in the transfer portal class is former five-star recruit and Florida State wide receiver transfer, Hykeem Williams. As a recruit in the 2023 class, Williams ranked as the No. 24 recruit overall and as the No. 4 wide receiver in the class.
During his time in Tallahassee, Williams was plagued by injury, but did show flashes at times as he recorded 21 catches for 276 yards and two scores.
Now that he's in Boulder, Williams is looking to help be one of the solutions at wide receiver as the Buffs saw three pass-catchers selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. When speaking to t he Media on Tuesday, Williams was asked about the biggest difference between Colorado and Florida State, and revealed that he felt he was being developed more.
"More development," Williams said. "More, more and more development...Coming here you're just around so much guys that been there. I mean there was guys that been there at Florida State, but here it's just on another level. You got three gold jackets (Hall of Fame members). You got NFL guys that come in, hall of famers that even come in still. Supporting us and help us to be great and succeed."
Although the comments about development may sting for those in Tallahassee, it is worth noting that Mike Norvell fired offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and also let go of wide receivers coach Ron Dugans during their 2-10 season in 2024.
Williams and the Buffs will open the season on Friday Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech.
