Former Alabama DB Vinnie Sunseri to join staff at Washington
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former Alabama defensive back Vinnie Sunseri is set to return to the college game and join Jedd Fisch’s staff at Washington according to The Athletic.

Sunseri has spent the last four seasons on Bill Belichick’s staff with the New England Patriots but did not return after Belichick stepped down earlier this year.

Sunseri played under former Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban from 2011-13 and was a part of two national championship teams.

He is also the son of former Alabama linebackers coach Sal Sunseri who coached under Saban for two different stints with the Crimson Tide.

Following his college career, Sunseri was a fifth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in the 2014 NFL Draft and would play two seasons in the NFL with stops with the Patriots and San Francisco 49ers before transitioning to coaching.

He will also be joining Belichick’s son, Steve, with the Huskies as he was hired as the team’s defensive coordinator last week as Fisch looks to build a staff to replace former head coach Kalen DeBoer who left Washington for Alabama.
